PSTN Switchoff

The Irish Copper Lines Switch-Off | Arktel

Already underway: Open Eir has begun restricting new ISDN and PSTN line orders in fibre-served areas across the Republic of Ireland. If your current line fails, replacement on the old network may no longer be possible.

The three stages of the switch-off

End of sale
Open Eir is actively restricting new ISDN and PSTN line orders in areas where fibre is available. If you’re not already affected, you will be.
Exchange decommissioning
Local telephone exchanges across the Republic are being progressively upgraded. Legacy analogue switching equipment is being physically removed.
End of life hardware
When legacy ISDN hardware or traditional PBX systems fail, providers can no longer repair them — replacement parts no longer exist. Migration is the only resolution.

What your business stands to lose

Sudden loss of service

Exchange upgrades can take out voice communications overnight. Businesses that wait for a notice often don’t get one.

Redundant equipment

Fax machines, door entry systems, lift emergency lines, and card payment terminals on copper will all stop working.

Security exposure

Analogue systems lack modern encryption and receive no security patches. Legacy infrastructure is an increasing liability.

Competitive disadvantage

Legacy lines can’t support remote working, unified communications, or the flexibility modern Irish businesses depend on.

Move to cloud VoIP — and come out ahead

1

Keep your existing numbers

We port your current 01, 021, 1800, or any other business number to the cloud. Your clients won’t notice a thing — except that your calls are clearer.

2

Reduce your monthly telecoms bill

Eliminate expensive ISDN line rental charges. Cloud VoIP typically delivers significant savings on both rental and call costs from day one.

3

Business phones, laptops, or smartphones

We supply and configure professional VoIP desk phones for your office, and your team can also make and receive calls from laptops or smartphones — all showing your office number, wherever they are.

4

Enterprise features, SME pricing

HD voice, auto-attendants, voicemail to email, call reporting, and hunt groups — all included, with no per-feature licensing and no surprise bills.

5

Scale up or down in minutes

Add users and lines instantly as your business grows. No engineer visits, no hardware orders, no waiting.

Local expertise. Nationwide capability.

We work exclusively with small and medium businesses. Sized and priced for that reality, not enterprise contracts.
